When you step on or off a train at Boston’s North Station, you’ll now be walking on the Red Auerbach Concourse.
The platform was officially named Friday in honor of the Boston Celtics [team stats] patriarch who died in 2006 at the age of 89.
Coach Doc Rivers, team captain Paul Pierce [stats] and former Celtics greats were among those attending the ceremony at the station where so many fans have arrived to watch the team play at Boston Garden and now the TD Garden.
The concourse will be adorned by two plaques — one in the shape of a Shamrock — and a sculpture inspired by a famous Auerbach photo.
Known for his trademark victory cigar, Arnold "Red" Auerbach won nine NBA championships as coach of the Celtics. He later was the team’s general manager and president.
